As I’ve said throughout this series in my reviews, PLEASE read the trigger warnings. I personally felt this one was much tamer than the three before it, however it is still very descriptive and depraved. It can be vile and gut wrenching in parts. It will make you want to toss your cookies.

I absolutely love this series, and the anticipation for Wolf’s book had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this damaged man, especially after all he endured on HOSS. That twist at the end of book three had me jumping for joy. I just knew he was going to bring me to the depths of hell and back.

Plus, I would get the added benefit of more Kodiak. Gosh, I need all the Kody I can get.

Anyway, I digress. Let me get back to our leading man. Wolfson Strakh.

I’m sad to say I had such a love hate relationship with Rise of Ink and Smoke.

Let me begin with what I loved. WOLF & JAG. I would give them 10 stars, if I could.

I ADORED the fuck out of this duo. For me, they are where the book SHINED. When they were together, their chemistry and intensity burned bright. The sparks were tangible. They screamed at you to pay attention. I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough. I NEEDED them. Individually and together.

The back stories. The in between stories. The villain storyline. The redemptions. The loyalty. The brothers. Jag. Wolf. Wolf. Jag. These two men.

We definitely didn’t get enough time with these two together.

I want a book with just solely them. Their strength. Their fights. Their foreplay. Their sexy times. Everything just them.

And that’s because I felt meh about Dove.

She’s where I struggled the most. Which sucks because she’s a main component of this journey. The book focuses mostly on her and Wolf. It’s not that she’s a bad character. She wasn’t. Dove was written well. She’s sweet, caring, and had her own traumas. Traumas that should have left my heart in my stomach but sadly wasn’t the case. My feelings when it came to her were not moved.

I can’t pinpoint why, but Dove just wasn’t it for me. I didn’t feel her chemistry with Wolf. Jag yes. Wolf no. Her scenes were kind of there. I liked her as an individual just not as part of the throuple.

I know Wolf INSTANTLY fell in love with her and Jag had always been in love with her, but no matter how hard I tried that wasn’t an emotion I experienced with her character. I honestly didn’t get Wolf’s insta with her. But I normally don’t when instalove is involved. That’s definitely a me thing and not the author’s fault. But even if I looked past that, Wolf & Dove’s relationship came across as more friends with benefits than star crossed soulmates. In the 800 pages of this book, I never felt a true connection between them.

Now, I can say I felt her connection to Jag more than Wolf’s and understood that love. There wasn’t anything instant about it. They were deeply connected by time, memories, and shared trauma. If this book centered on just them, I would have liked it more and rated it higher. But since it didn’t...

On the flip side, the INSTANT connection between Wolf and Jag worked 1000%. It was much more believable. It was pretty fucking powerful; I felt it down to my bones. Our leading men were captivating and what kept me reading such a long book.

All that to say, if you’ve already read the first three in the series, you must finish with Wolf’s story. Dove may absolutely work for you. Even if she doesn’t, Wolf and Jag are definitely worth giving this a go for. You won’t be disappointed. If you haven’t read this series yet, and dark themes with no boundary limits are your jam, what are you waiting for, this whole series is a must read.

Hey reading world! It’s been a hot minute. I haven’t gotten much reading in until lately, thanks to a couple of friends who convinced me I needed to jump on the Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid band wagon.

And let me just say, thank fuck they did! Because like everyone else, I am obsessed. Not so much with the book, as I definitely enjoy the show much more. Please don’t come for me (LOL), I didn’t mind the book version of HR, it just didn’t hold me captivated the way the show does. In all honesty, if I had started with the book, I don’t think I would have continued. I definitely wouldn’t hold the same kind of love and addiction to it.

Show Shane and Ilya—phew! Their intensity is off the charts and that chemistry is something to envy. It had me on the edge of my seat, yearning for more. These two and their cat & mouse game left me craving.

Which led me to picking up The Long Game. I don’t know what changed in Reid’s writing, but the second book focused on my favorite couple held me so immersed in their love, connection, trials and tribulations that I lost track of time. This time around, I was a rollercoaster of emotion. I fell even more in love with this duo. Seeing them fight for their love, their relationship, to be able to live their life out loud, out in public shattered my heart and pieced it right back together.

Sorry for the vague, short talk about TLG but I don’t want to accidentally give any spoilers out.

I can’t wait for season two of the show coming in 2027 and for Unrivaled to hit the shelves in September 2026. I’m not one to wish time by fast, but uh…I need me some more Ilya and Shane. I guess it’s rereads and reheats until then.

If you love MM reads and need something new to read, I HIGHLY suggest the Cut & Run series by Abigail Roux. After spending time with my two current favorite boys, I had to go back and spend time with my first favorite set of boys (well men). Ty and Zane were my introduction to MM reads and I’ve been in love with them ever since. I can’t even tell you how often I’ve reread this series.

Holy. Moley. I’m wicked excited to have found my first 5 star read of the year. And it’s Kye and Fallon, no less.

Ever had one of those reads that left you saying just one more chapter, then I’ll head to bed. Welcome to Secret Haven. Before I knew it it was 3am.

This duo has been my most anticipated read for like ever, since the first book, Fragile Sanctuary, released. They’ve been my addiction for years now. I’m not ashamed to admit, I would reread just their parts. Thank god, Kye and Fallon were EVERYTHING I’d hoped for and so much more.

This couple put my emotions through the wringer. Talk about a rollercoaster ride. The amount of tears I shed. The amount of smiles I felt my mouth turning up in. The amount of times my heart sighed, or fell into my stomach. It’s been a hot minute since a book hot me on such a level.

With that said, I was trepidatious. The Sparrow Falls series has been hit and miss for me. I’m so happy that Secret Haven turned out to be a HUGE hit! Catherine Cowles NAILED the ending of this series, giving this couple the perfect send off. I couldn’t have asked for a better finale.

Kyler and Fallon will be a reread for many years to come.

I’m normally a HUGE Emma Scott fan and this was a highly anticipated read for me. However, I struggled with Little Pieces of Light. I even considered dnfing quite a few times. Because of it being Emma Scott I kept pushing though, admittedly skimming. This one ended up being a love/hate kind of read.

Years ago, this would absolutely be my jam. I would have thrived on the drama, the back and forth. Now... now, I’m definitely not the target audience. It seems YA/NA isn’t something I can do without a bunch of eye rolls and sighs.

As much as I wanted to, I just couldn’t connect for about 80% of the book. At various time, these characters felt one dimensional. And I can’t lie, my eyes glazed over and I lost complete interest with all the physics and math talk. When these parts came, I closed out my Kindle app and went to do some mindless scrolling. It took me a bit to open it back up. I also found it really hard to believe two TEN year old’s fell madly in love with each other after one meeting, that lasted about an hour or so, and stayed that way for SEVEN years. During those seven years they had absolutely no communication with each other. Then there was the repetitiveness.

I have to say this did not feel like the Emma Scott I’m used to reading. I missed that raw, gritty emotion. Characters that I actually gave two shits about. A story so gripping I read it in one sitting because I couldn’t step away.

So why the three stars? Well I finished it so there was a star. I did feel some emotion (and glimpses of the old Emma Scott writing) closer to the end of the book so I added a star for that. Dean. He earned 5 stars by himself but I had to average out the star rating.

Reading has been wicked hard for me lately. I find with new books I struggle to stay focused, and always end up doom scrolling Facebook or Instagram. Now old school books, those I can reread the entire series in a couple of days.

I’m not sure why. Although, I do think writing and story telling has definitely changed over the last decade.

Anyway, I started reading Little Pieces of Light by Emma Scott. It took me a bit to sit and actually get into it. Started and stopped a couple of times. But I’m about 30% in now and really enjoying it. I’m a HUGE Emma Scott fan. If you haven’t read her books I HIGHLY suggest giving her a try. There’s always so much rich, raw depth. Nothing one dimensional about her stories or characters.

I’ll let you guys know what I think once I finish. I’d love to know your thoughts if you’ve read this one.
